Building the Legacy: A Training Curriculum on IDEA 2004 -- 17 Online Modules

This curriculum is intended to help all those involved with children with disabilities to understand and implement IDEA 2004, the nation's special education law. It is organized according to five themes central to IDEA, with multiple training modules for each of them. The themes are (a) Welcome to IDEA: A Broad Look -- 2 modules; (b) IDEA and General Education -- 4 modules; (c) Evaluating Children for Disability -- 3 modules; (d) Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) -- 5 modules; and (d) Procedural Safeguards -- 3 modules. New Ways/New Days: Short Video Trainings for Parents and Families

These 15 videos for parents and families cover a range of topics, such as (a) tips on fathering; (b) guardianship; (c) individualized education program; (d) life after high school; (e) managing those forms; (f) tips for positive parenting; and nine others.  (In addition to other initiatives, FACETS operates Wisconsin’s Parent Training & Information Center and the Region 4 Parent Technical Assistance Center, both funded by the Office of Special Education Programs, U.S. Department of Education.  The videos were developed in partnership with Wisconsin’s CESA 4 and CESA 7, the School District of LaCrosse, and local cable providers.)

Audio Conferences for Parents

The Parent Information Center of Delaware offers audio conferences on topics relevant to the education of typical children and children with disabilities.  As of late 2009, 13 audios are available on a range of topic of concern to parents, such as (a) understanding school educational and psychological evaluations; (b) individualized education program; (c) accommodations; (d) mediation (e) response to intervention; and eight more.  (Located in Wilmington, Delaware’s Parent Training and Information Center is funded by the Office of Special Education Programs, U.S. Department of Education.)
